Dread Delusion is a 2024 RPG developed by Lovely Hellplace, with a visual aesthetic that draws from PS1 era graphics and games like Morrowind. Structured as an open-world RPG, players will get to adventure through various biomes and experience great worldbuilding and storytelling. The game lacks some challenge and depth to a lot of the underlying systems, so this game can be considered as a narrative romp as opposed to an indepth sandbox akin to Morrowind.
Why should this game be played?
This game has great style, especially for individuals who fondly remember the era of Morrowind or chunky PS1 style graphics. The world is unique and the story adventurers are taken on throughout the game is engaging. While the combat systems lack some depth, mainly due to low difficulties and the ability to dodge most enemy attacks with a backstep, it's still fun to run through the world and smash mushroom creatures while exploring.
Gameplay systems are stripped down versions of those you would encounter in a typical first-person RPG. There are four stats available to assign during character creation: might (strength), guile (agility), Wisdom (intelligence), and persona (charisma). Over the course of the game these stats can be increased by finding collectible Delusions throughout the world, providing a method to increase player power. There are combat skills, upgrades to the players weapon and spells available in a playthrough as well. Additionally, support skills such as lockpicking, lore checks for knowledge on how to interact with items in the world, and charm checks to open up dialog options.
The game is a great example of worldbuilding, with a cool setting and interesting characters. While the combat systems aren't as involved, it's still a great adventure to playthrough atleast once.
